The docu-series paints a sympathetic portrait of Hefner. We are reminded how he overcame his puritanical upbringing, how his future first wife reportedly shocked him by admitting to an affair when they were engaged, and how the Kinsey Report opened his eyes toward new sexual attitudes in the country. Even as the story reproaches Hefner about some of his shortcomings — including leaving his family for the magazine and not being around much for his daughter, Christine — it does so lightly.
